Hey there, and welcome to my blog!
My name’s Josh Watermolen, and I’m a proud dad, husband, insurance professional, sports junkie, and former sailor—sharing my journey through life, fatherhood, and everything in between.
I was born on August 9th, 1975, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, right at St. Vincent Hospital on Webster Street (Go Pack Go!). At just 5'1", my dream of playing professional football never quite panned out—but that didn’t stop me from being passionate about the game. I’m a die-hard Packers fan, a lover of Brewers baseball, Superbike racing, and yes—even a Boston Bruins hockey fan. Sports are just part of my DNA.
After high school, I joined the Navy—thanks to a not-so-gentle nudge from my uncle, who also happened to be my recruiter (thanks, Uncle Recruiter!). I served for two years, packed with adventure, sunburns, and enough life lessons to last a lifetime.
During my six-month Mediterranean cruise from October 1994 to April 1995, I saw more of the world than I ever expected. I crossed the Suez Canal, sailed past the Rock of Gibraltar (or as I like to call it, “the world’s fanciest speed bump”), and spent time in the Mediterranean, Arabian Gulf, and Adriatic Sea. I took part in military operations with action-movie names like Southern Watch, Deny Flight, Provide Promise, Sharp Guard, Juniper Falconry III, and Vigilant Warrior—which basically made me feel like I was in a real-life episode of "NCIS: Everywhere."
The Navy also gave me a passport full of incredible ports of call: Jebel Ali in the UAE, Cannes, Trieste, Naples, Haifa, Antalya, Rhodes, and Palma de Mallorca. Not to brag, but I also cruised through Fort Lauderdale and the Bahamas, where my biggest mission was avoiding sunburn and trying not to dance like a dad before I actually became one.
That experience shaped my work ethic, perspective, and probably the part of me that still gets up way too early on weekends.
When I transitioned back to civilian life, I dove into sales—starting with Kirby vacuum cleaners (insert door-to-door hustle here) and eventually stepping into leadership as a manager with Nationwide Warehouse.
Life has taken me all over the map: from my hometown of Green Bay to Loveland and Denver, Colorado; Minneapolis and Minnetonka, Minnesota; Virginia Beach and Newport News, Virginia; Chicago, Illinois—and now, full circle, back to Wisconsin.
These days, I’m happily married to my amazing wife Kim (we tied the knot in 2018), and together we’re raising our two young sons, Emmett (5) and Aiden (2). Fatherhood is the greatest adventure I’ve ever taken on, and it’s what inspired me to start this blog. My goal is simple: to offer real talk and helpful tips for other new dads who are figuring it all out just like I am.
When I’m not working or spending time with the family, you’ll find me outdoors—camping, hiking, or casting a line. I love staying active, whether it’s hitting the golf course, shooting hoops, playing tennis, or just going for a walk. I’m also a huge concert fan. Music and sports? That’s my jam.
Professionally, I’m the co-founder of the Green Bay branch of Neighbors Insurance Group. I specialize in retirement planning, tax-free income strategies, 401K rollovers, estate planning, Medicare solutions, and more. I’m passionate about helping families feel confident and secure about their financial future.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’ll stick around for stories, advice, and honest conversations about what it really means to be a dad, a husband, and a guy just doing his best.
Let’s enjoy the ride together.
— Josh Watermolen
